Animal Portraits
Nathalie Girard creates custom watercolor portraits of pets and wildlife, carefully crafted on request. Attentive to capturing the unique spirit and character of each animal, she takes the necessary time to deliver sensitive and detailed artworks. As a dog owner herself, she understands the importance of fine details and typically spends 8 to 10 hours on an 8x10 inch (20x25 cm) painting. Her work is spread over several days to stay fresh and focused, allowing each layer to dry before applying the next. This meticulous process requires intense concentration, which is rarely sustained for more than 2.5 hours at a time. For example, she may spend up to two hours painting a single eye, working with a magnifying glass. She favors gradient color backgrounds rather than figurative ones. All paintings are done on thick 100% cotton paper, which is sensitive to humidity and light; framing is recommended to preserve the vibrancy of the colors.
How do I order a portrait?
Clients should send an email with their contact details, a brief description of the animal, and at least one clear photo—multiple photos are preferred to ensure the best result. If no photo is deemed adequate, she reserves the right to decline the commission.
The artist then contacts the client by phone (if possible) or email to discuss the project. Once agreed, a quote is provided, including estimated creation time and shipping fees if delivery is requested. A non-refundable 20% deposit is required before starting the painting. Work begins upon receipt of this deposit.
