Like a Fish in Water

Have you ever noticed how soothing it is to watch a fish swim in an aquarium? Ungoverned by gravity, it moves quietly, from right to left, left to right, up and down and down and up, without any specific goal, except perhaps to find by chance a little food that has fallen into a corner. He doesn’t seem traumatized by past events, nor tormented by those of the future. He is simply there, living one moment at a time. I believe that the fish teaches us that the best way to find serenity and inner peace is to live in the here and now. Therefore, each time my mind wanders and clings to past or imaginary worries, I remind myself that, like a fish in water, the solution lies in the present moment.
